Q-Will

Q-Will aim to be one of the leading online-will providers on the world wide web. The online will service at www.quickonlinewills.com allows you to create a legal online will using the Gold Service for only £36. If you want to create a legal online to be checked and verified by solicitors, you can use the Platinum Service for £66. It can be done all in the privacy of your home. The service allows you to specify your funeral preferences, executors, replacement executors, guardians, cash gifts, charity donations, personal gifts, primary beneficiaries and secondary benificiaries.

Q-Will Review

Ford & Warren commissioned Keydata Solutions to create an online wills application which would allow a user to register,and prepare a fully legal will.

Peter McWilliams, Senior Partner at Ford & Warren said, "The decision to develop an online will capability was driven by our becoming more frequently consulted by those having to deal with the loss of a loved one, and the aggravation caused by "do it yourself" wills; which often do not have the legal effect originally intended. We had a look around the online market and saw many different sites. Some were very poor, some were much better, but there wasn't one we could find that we thought combined user friendliness, an appropriate level of detail and the right price'

Peter wanted a site that was intuitive and easy to understand. A design was created and coded using Visual Studio 2010. Ajax was used on most pages to provide quick response to users when changes were made on screen. Graphics, buttons and menus were designed using Fireworks. We used SQL as the database and used several techniques on the entry pages to try and save the user time and effort -

When adding an person we have an option "Use my address", so for example when adding a partner or child who lives with the user in the same house, this option could be clicked and the address details would be filled in for the user.

Similarly if you had named a person, as say an executor, and later wished to leave a gift, you could click the "Use a person I have already entered" and the users name and address would be instantly filled in for the user.

Help was added to every stage of the process to enable the application to answer questions the user may have and to provide guidelines regarding legal points.

The user is guided through a series of logical steps and as the user completes each stage, it is ticked on the menu to show it has been completed. If a stage is not necessary, the user is informed. The process can be very quick from start to finish if the user has all the information at hand. Some users completed a full will in 10 minutes.

There are two services provided - a Gold Service, where the will is emailed as a PDF document immediately following payment and a Platinum Service, where every will is carefully checked by a solicitor.

Keydata Solutions also created an administration area for Q-Wills where Ford & Warren administrators could log into and monitor and control the various stages of will production and if necessary email the user if there was any query regarding their will.
