Ransomware is a strain of malware (malicious software) that encrypts or locks all of the files on your computer or server and then demands a ransom payment to unlock your files. Now that a real IT headache. There are many forms; Locky, Cryptolocker, Teslacrypt and Cryptowall, but as cyber criminals are getting more and more sophisticated, more are on their way.
How does it spread?
The most common source of infection is from emails, when a user innocently opens a contaminated attachment or clicks a malicious link. However, there are many other sources, such as via a USB stick or by joining free WiFi networks.
How can I remove it?
Unfortunately, there’s no sure-fire way to remove Ransomware. Even paying up doesn’t always work. The best approach is to access your backups, that allows you to roll back to a point, prior to infection.
That’s when you need a backup and business continuity solution. Some of our customers have been the victim of ransomware attacks but because we implemented a good backup solution, we were able to restore virtually all their information back.
